This Is Not What It Used To Be. It saddens me to write this. Tra Vigne used to be one of my favorite Bay Area restaurants, but it has gone downhill rapidly over the last year and a half. If you will notice, the last good review in this space is from 2003! Until it recovers its former glory, which hopefully it will, stay away.
This splashy Italian restaurant's spacious outdoor patio is a prime destination for Wine Country visitors..
In Short
Huge double doors, a big, convivial dining room and a patio that stretches around the restaurant makes for capital-D destination dining for Napa Valley tourists. Californian produce meets an Italian sensibility at this high-profile Wine Country eatery. Don't miss the luscious Parmesan budino, an ultra-rich, ultra-irresistable savory custard. Whole fish roasted in the wood-burning oven is a speciality, as is Dungeness crab in season.
Very Disappointed 02/2005.
Seated promptly. We ordered 3 different Salads between 4 of us, all good. Appetizer was Calamari, 5 pieces! BUT it had alot of Fava Beans. Not much flavor.
Ordered 3 different Entrees between us, All were very small portions and the taste was barely average. For the rather large bill we feel taken advantage of.
Heaven. I dream of this place and any time that I am within 100 miles of it, I have to go. Sit in the outdoor courtyard and you will experience the lazy attmosphere of napa valley, with a hint of tuscany breezing through the canopy of trees. The parmesian custard is good enough to create a sensoral memory that you will not soon forget. I recommend Tra Vigne whole-heartedly and cannot wait to return again myself.
Great Restaurant. This restaurant was very good. A very nice atmosphere. They have good service and very good food. Try the short ribs. They were out of this world.
A Nice Place. My wife and I went there for dinner a couple of weeks ago. I had the braised beef ribs, wife had the crab pasta. We shared the brocoli/spinach rabe. I thought the ribs on polenta was tasty, meat VERY tender with good flavor. Wife's pasta was OK. The pasta "sauce" really overpowered any crab in there. The veggies were tasty, if a bit salty. The wine was good, the cheapest white in the place. The desert, we split a creme brulee and it was fantastic (with huckleberries). Service was very good, and attentive even for rubes like us (strangely we never got water, but then we did not ask). BTW, the restrooms are pretty bad.
