Thank Heaven !! – My dogs ages are 15,13,11 and I was apprehensive of having to board them for a week but found Wine Country Pet Resort close to my destination. I dropped them off and felt better because of the way they were received and handled ( was even helped lifting the oldest old girl out of the car ). When I picked them up I was so pleased, they were happy, relaxed and obviously well fed !! I also had booked for them to be groomed and instead of the shaggy beasts I had delivered they looked gorgeous. My only beef ? I had to buy a dog bed because my oldest had become spoiled !!!!!
Six Stars – I have a very difficult, big dog and am extremely lucky to have found this kennel. Phyllis and her staff have worked wonders with my dog and I feel very comfortable leaving him there for short and long stays (recently 4 weeks). I don't think any dog is happy to be stuck in a kennel, but it's obvious when I pick him up that the staff understand his special needs and have been watching out for him. This is a fairly busy facility, I've used it for over a year and would give it six stars if I could!
Marvelous experience – My dog loved his stay there. I arrived back in town earlier than expected and stopped by a day early to pick him up. He was in a huge grass play yard romping with another dog and being supervised by one of the staff.
The staff were very nice, experienced dog people. I felt when I dropped him off he was in a safe & secure place and I picked up a very happy dog.
It's nice to know there are professionals like these folks to take care of him when I have to go out of town.
Don,t Bother – We booked our standard poodle in here for 2 weeks. The evening before we were to leave for our cruise, my husband arrived with the dog and they were CLOSED! This was about 5:30 PM on a Sat. We had pre-arranged the drop off time. If Camp Rawhide had been closed...we would have been out scout! Annabelle loved her stay at CR and she was well taken care of. Best of all they are cheaper and the dogs DO get out of the kennel.
Not As Advertised – I was recommended this place b/c allegedly they specialize in Newfoundland dogs. I took my girl there for two nights. I was told they also allowed dogs to run freely with the other dogs, to play and exercise instead of being locked in a kennel all day long.
I was skeptical when I dropped her off b/c I could hear dozens of dogs nonstop barking in the background. Just that alone must make dogs crazy having to listen to that day and night. But I dropped her off anyway. When I picked her up it was so plainly evident she had NOT been allowed out of her kennel b/c she immediately ran to the lawn and peed and peed and peed. When I asked if they'd let her out to play/pee, they said it was too hot that day. Well, couldn't they have let her out early in the morning when it was still cool? It was only 1PM when I picked her up.
Since then I have not taken her to any kennel b/c it's too traumatic and the possibilities for mistreatment are too great. How do we know what they're doing when we're not there to see? Now I get a friend to dogsit when I need to be away overnight.
A great place to Board or take advantage of Doggie Day Care! – I've been taking our dogs here for several years. When our older dog was fragile and dying, she was given special care. I was so relieved and grateful for their services.
Montana, our 3 year old Black Lab has been going since she was a puppy. Recently we started doing Doggie Day Care. Montana is happy, she wags her tail when we get there and when we pick her up.
Phyllis is wonderful, kind and so good to all the animals. The facility is in a great location and it accmodates large play areas for the dogs. I am so glad I am doing the Doggie Day Care for Montana.
Do NOT Recommend – My husband and I consider ourselves somewhat picky when it comes to boarding our dog when we travel, as she is an important part of the family, but we're certainly not over the top in any regard. It really takes a lot for us to write a review but I wanted to get the word out about this facility. We have boarded her here twice and will never go back. The first time we were charged extra for twice-a-day feeding without being told upfront. They insisted they communicated this when we dropped her off but both my husband and I were present and it was never mentioned. This came out to be $35 additional when we picked her up. They also insisted we pay it literally before they would even go in the back to retrieve our dog. Since she seemed taken care of though we decided to give the resort another chance. The next time we boarded her was for a short overnight stay. She was in their care for less than 24 hours. As it clearly mentions on their website boarding is $30 per day for a medium sized dog. We dropped her off at 5pm Sunday and picked her up at 4pm on Monday. They charged us $60 total since apparently no matter what time you drop your pet off the first day they charge you a full $30. Not only was this never verbally communicated when we left her or when we made our reservation but again they refused to give our dog back until we paid the full $60. It was also very clear when we got her home that she was not let out that day by them at any time. We are extremely unsatisfied and will never use Wine Country Pet Resort again.
