Don G's? Oh please!.
I'm so sick of everyone telling me this place has great food! Not once have I had good service or food. My list of grievances are as follows:
1. Rude Hostesses-- I called the restaurant in advance to ensure they were still open, when I got there with a party of 4, I was told they were closed. No accomodations were made, no suggestions given.
2. Asked: "Is that all you're gonna eat?" Need I say more.
3. Ordered a glass of Zinfandel, received Pinot Grigio the first time, then a rose the second.
4. Carpaccio w/fat in it.
5. Cold soup...no it wasn't Gazpacho
Oh did I mention the last 3 were on the same visit? I used to bartend in a great family run italian restaurant in Menlo Park, CA; and I'd travel the 2 hours to them instead of ever eating at Don Gio's again.
Rub-a-dub-dub thanks for the grub. Don G's is a great dining experience! The food is delish, service... excellent, ambience... coolio. A definite local favorite as well for this one-time regular visitor of Napa. It's been a while since I last went but about 4 years ago my dining group was graced with the presence of, at the time, the reigning Miss Puerto Rico celebrating her birthday there. If she was there then you know it is good!
My Favorite Restaurant.
I LOVE Bistro Don Giovanni's. I didn't expect much after pulling off the freeway looking for a place to eat. We were pleasantly surprised.
Service has been excellent each time I have dined here- attentive, but unobtrusive. Food is excellent. There is a tuna salad that was offered one summer I dined there that was absolutely delicious.
I highly recommend sitting on the patio in the warmer months. It overlooks a small vineyard and the faint strains of music can be heard playing.
Great Night. great wine list - great food - well trained wait staff - the cars in the parking lot just added to the experience - it was obvious this was not a tourist place but a favorite of the locals but they treated my family like we were somebody
Very Disappointed!. Mediocre food, portions very small, prices too high for what you receive. Service unaccommodating. There are better restaurants in the area to spend your money at!
With its delightful outdoor patio and classic Italian fare, this Napa Valley restaurant is a locals' favorite..
The Scene
Inside, the dining room has high ceilings, modern art and large picture windows. Outside, the patio is a festive affair surrounded by mountains, vineyards and herb and vegetable gardens.
The Food
While little on the Italian menu strays from the familiar, just about everything is excellently prepared. A grilled portabello mushroom is served over greens and drizzled with a balsamic-chicken stock reduction. Zucchini matchsticks are deep-fried and coated with fresh parmesan, and spinach salad gets a lift with gorgonzola and beets. Whole roasted Thai snapper, redolent of sliced garlic, is filleted at your table. The desserts including fruit crisps, fruit tarts and intensely flavored granitas and sorbets are consistently good. The beverage list highlights Napa Valley and Italian wines, with a thoughtful selection of beers and ales.
Consistantly Good. The food at Bistro Don Giovanni is consitatly good and is a personal favorites of locals. I have been going to the restaurant for years and will keep going. If you are unsure on what to order get the samon, it is always a winer.
Best Meal in Napa. Have dined at this establishment several times and the food and service has always been above excellent.
Comfort Italian at a comfortable price. I have frequented Don Giovanni is a perfect place for an polished plate of succulent Italian cuisine at a reasonable price. It is a great place for lunch, I find dinnertime to be very crowded and loud. I personally love their antipasti plate, their EXTRAORDINARY caesar salad, and their ravioli (get half lemon cream and tomato cause, believe me!) Their desserts are decadent, as well. In the summertime, it is best to sit on the veranda. Don Giovanni has a verdant garden area with a unique fountain that is charming, yet casual.
Over rated!.
Over priced and over rated. Food only average, bar service extremely slow.
