Perfect day of sunning w/ massage. This is one of the best deals for an hour massage in Calistoga and you can use the minearl pool/hot tub before and/or after. Also, you can sun yourself on the deck. The surroundings are a bit primitive and the minearl pool is in an enclosed area, but it's an all around well spent day.
JUST DON"T STAY THERE. The spa's fine, but don't stay! One example (only ONLY one example.....!) I was told I could check in early-- around 1:00. When I arrived I was told, "she shouldn't have said that. Around 2:00 and your room will be ready," Fine. Lunch, 2:30, it's "oh, she's still cleaning it! They were the last to check out.... 15 more minutes?" Half an hour later (at 3:00, the "guaranteed" check in time)....not ready! At 3:45 my room was ready. (I'm sorry, I could have cleaned the dang room faster.) An apology? Nope. Just rude! Even better--when I went to check out two days later I was running a little late and told them I'd be checking out at about 1:00. After a "discussion" with several people, a manager who was SO rude, he finally told me "fine. but you'll have to be out of there right at 12:45."Ahhh....hospitality. NOT.
Mud baths and blanket wraps for wine country visitors..
The Scene
If you're looking for deluxe accommodations, this may not be the right choice. But if you're seeking a classic experience in a celebrated spa town, go ahead and book your room. It's not common to find a traditional spa experience at such reasonable rates in this area.
The Details
This resort offers a full range of rituals. Guests can enjoy therapeutic couples' mud baths, hot mineral pools, clay mask treatments and blanket therapy for sweating out impurities. Numerous packages that combine treatments are available. Unfortunately, the guest rooms lack flair, with decor typical of standard hotel accommodations. But they are clean and comfortable, and some even include saunas and kitchenettes. The property is a short walk to Calistoga's assortment of boutiques, wine-tasting shops and fine restaurants.
Would go back.
This place was better than I expected. I'd definitely go back for the mud baths which is a real deal for couples. The massages were so-so but at least we got to be in the same room for them.
Basically you get what you paid for at this place. The staff is decent, not top of the line. They provide you with a robe, not cushy white terry cloth (the kind you'd get at Sonoma Mission Inn) but they make do. The towels are clean but not sparkling white.
Overall a nice experience and would repeat if I was on a budget.
