Great service, nice atmosphere, great food.
Our plans originally had us in Calistoga around dinner time, so we had booked Brannan's for dinner. Unfortunately due to drenching rain we had changed our original plans, and when dinner time arrived we were 20 miles down the road in Napa. We hesitated driving 20 miles out of our way in driving rain, and ultimately decided to do so as we had heard great things about Brannan's.
We arrived and were immediately taken to a large booth near the warm fireplace in an almost empty dining room. The menu was appealing with a variety of items, and we both decided on a filet. The service was polite and friendly without ever hovering. Our meals were delivered hot and fresh, and cooked to our liking. A basket of tasty rolls and butter were provided, and we skipped an appetizer and enjoyed the warm sour dough rolls with our pre-dinner cocktails instead.
Although we were very full, we managed to split dessert from the many delicious sounding choices. The prices were in line with an average better restaurant, and we felt very fair for the level of food and service provided.
Parking was readily available right out front on the street.
It was a drive worth making.
Incredible Food. I must say I was more than impressed with the service and food. The current Chef, Joel Ehrlich, has done AMAZING things with the menu. The flavors of the food were like a symphony, they beautiful flowed together in my mouth. I highly recommend this resturant to EVERYONE!
More surf-and-turf than your average Wine Country joint, this traditional restaurant fits into stylish Calistoga beautifully..
The Scene
Diners are greeted as they absorb the ever-present dark oak, comfy dining room and shrine-like bar of this casually refined Calistoga mainstay. Huge, airy street-side windows (opened when weather permits) are a worthwhile seating request. Servers are plentiful and friendly, but ask for prompt service or expect plenty of time to relax between courses.
The Food
Thick, robust preparations start immediately with the gratifyingly huge, soft diver scallops or powerfully sweet hoisin-glazed baby back ribs. The only greens course to benefit from this approach is the warm spinach salad--others are mushy and wet. Oven-roasted halibut similarly defers to its surprisingly effective accompaniment of aromatic mussels and couscous. Good balance can be found here, however, in the yielding nut-crusted lamb with rapini, the subtle roasted chicken with risotto and pesto, and space allowing, the capable dessert menu.
Very Nice Meal. My mother sister and I had a great meal here...service was great too.....If I was there with my boyfriend - it could have been romantic.
