California tapas and an urban styling are a welcome change in this sleepy Calistoga town.. Situated inside the Mount View Hotel, this eatery fuses Nor Cal cuisine with wine bar-chic. Although the clientele aren't quite hiply-clad urbanites (think mature, wine tasting tourists), a cosmopolitan feel pervades the small space. In the front, floor-to-ceiling windows frame passer-bys on bustling Lincoln Avenue. A wood-fired oven cracks above the back bar and adds a touch of rusticity to the refined dining room. The one-page menu of small plates encourages diners to mix, match, and create their own tasting menu. Stand-out bites include crispy duck confit with soaked cherries, potato and crab-encrusted cod, or parmesan truffle fries. Renovated dessert classics like chocolate decadence with banana marsala are not to be missed.
